This Sunday evening we begin a new series in 1 Samuel looking at the story of David. Israel’s first king, Saul, has disobeyed the Lord and fallen out of the Lord’s favor. So, Samuel is told to go to a family in Judah to anoint the new king the Lord will reveal to him. However, the one the Lord has chosen is not the one Samuel or anyone else is expecting. As the Lord chooses David, he reminds Samuel and us that he sees things differently than we do. We often get caught up looking at outward appearances, but the Lord knows and looks at the heart. This anointing points forward to the king who truly is one after God’s own heart, Jesus, and also calls us to look at things in God’s way in our lives.
