As we continue our series in James, we dive into chapter 2 this week where the issue of favoritism is addressed. This is another area of our lives that can easily become fractured from our faith if we aren’t careful. We aren’t to play favorites in the way we treat our neighbors, or to be quick to make judgments based on surface realities. James bases this word on the fact that Christ has shown mercy to us, and in his command to love our neighbor as ourselves. This command to love isn’t just directed toward neighbors we like or who can benefit us, but is to be extended to all our neighbors.
