This Sunday morning we will continue to reflect on the imagery of clothing or being clothed that we see throughout Scripture by going to the story of Jacob and Esau. In this story, Jacob and Rebekah deceive Isaac into thinking that Jacob is Esau, and thereby giving him his blessing, by having Jacob dress up in Esau’s clothing. In our sinfulness, one of the ways we misuse clothing is to deceive each other or to try and make ourselves into something we aren’t. In this story, we also see again our futile efforts to try and clothe ourselves in God’s blessing. As we think about our lives, we need to be aware of how sin creeps into even what we wear and why we wear it. However, we see in this story how God continues to be at work to clothe his children with blessing, despite our brokenness.
