We often sing the line “dressed in his righteousness alone,” as we think about what Christ has done for us, and what he is bringing us to in the future. This is fitting, because the imagery of clothing, and its connection with our relationship to God, is a thread that runs all through the story of Scripture. This summer we will spend time pulling on the threads of some of these stories to see again how God has made us to relate to him. We will also explore how our own relationship to physical clothing today may or may not reflect what God is intending for us in Christ. This week, we go to the beginning of the story and see how as shame enters into our lives through sin, our efforts at covering ourselves don’t work. However, God is willing to sacrifice in order to cover the shame of our sin once more.
