This Sunday morning we continue to reflect on how we are to live as we await Jesus’ return. At the end of Revelation 3, Jesus gives a message to the church in Laodicea, warning them that their lukewarmness is unacceptable. This reality flows from an overconfidence in their ability to provide for themselves, even while they pay the Lord lip service on the surface of their lives. Jesus’ words here remind us that we can’t just go through the motions of our faith in him. In a culture where we have lots of resources and provisions, we also can fall into the pattern of the Laodicean church. Jesus calls us to turn away from trusting in ourselves, and to open the door to his Lordship in our lives.
