This past week we reflected on why prayer is such a fundamental practice for us as Christians. In Christ, we are God’s children who are made for this kind of communion with God. This week we reflect some on what prayer is. Certainly prayer is a communication between us and God, but what should this communication look like and what is it’s purpose? The verses from 1 Peter remind us that in prayer we are communicating with a living God who intends to shape us such that our lives are a pleasing offering to him. This shaping of our character is part of prayer’s purpose, and so the way we pray should reflect this too.
