The last fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5 is self-control. Paul might have intentionally put this characteristic at the end of the list because it is a needed quality to be able to exhibit all the other fruit. We are engaged in a tug-of-war between the fruit of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit, and self-control is the characteristic that helps us keep the desires of our flesh in their proper place. Besides checking our flesh, self-control also helps us be more disciplined in living toward the direction God points us in. Is there a particular area of your life where you need to grow in self-control right now?
