This Sunday is Palm Sunday, and we will reflect on Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem as described in Matthew’s gospel. We’ve been using the image of a garden throughout this season to think about our relationship with the Lord, and how we are longing to get back to that original garden in Genesis, and our relationship with the Lord there. As Jesus rides down into Jerusalem, we see God coming down from the perfect garden of heaven and into the broken mess that we have made. However, Jesus doesn’t come to condemn, but to save, and to restore us in our relationship with God. But Jesus also comes as the true king, and if we are going to be restored to the garden of life, we need to live worshiping Jesus as the king of our lives.
