This Labor Day weekend we wrap up our summer series by returning to the gospel of Matthew and Jesus’ encounter with a rich young man. This man seems to have a lot in his favor, but goes away from this conversation sad because of his relationship to his possessions. Jesus reminds his followers of the danger of pursuing money or wealth in our lives. When these things are too important to us, it causes problems in our relationship with the Lord and those around us. Instead of depending on these things, which eventually will fail us, Jesus calls on us to depend on the gracious power of God, who can do the impossible.
