As we continue our series in Daniel this Sunday evening, we find ourselves now in the second half of the book which overall presents us with a different style of writing from the first half. The style of the second half of the book is more apocalyptic, and contains several dreams and visions the Lord gives to the prophet. In Chapter 7 the dream given to Daniel points toward power and authority, and who truly has these things. While there is a lot to reflect on with this dream, overall it reminds God’s people that he is in control, and that his kingdom is the truly powerful and lasting one. The image in the center of this chapter of the Ancient of Days and the Son of Man point us to how God’s power is displayed. In Jesus we see the one who is promised in this chapter. He is the one defeats all that would oppose God and his kingdom, and allows God’s people to have a part in the reign of God.
