Open and Closed Doors

By Pastor Eric

For anyone who has a dog or cat, those furry members of the family are usually anxious to see you when you get home from a long day. In most cases they are ready to get out of the house and into the fresh air. This evening after I got home from work, I parked my truck in the garage and I could hear our dog Oakley barking away on the other side of the door. I slowly pushed the door open, keeping my foot in the door to keep him inside and before I could  blink, Oakley was in the grass rolling around. I tried to keep him in with my foot but the door was open just enough for him to spring free.

The devil is always waiting for an open door into your life. So often the temptation is right in front of us, we see it, we know it, and we still decide to crack the door open just enough so that the devil slips his foot in. Once the door is open his objective is to speak lies, kill, and destroy. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy” John 10:10a. The devil is playing for keeps so we must live our lives in such a way to prevent the evil one from ever having his foot in the door. We must live in obedience in all we do, to listen to the voice of the shepherd who comes with the truth. We must remain focused on Jesus.

Be wise and follow God’s Word for your life. Don’t just know his Word but live it out so that the doors of righteousness and obedience swing wide open. “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” John 10:10b. Let him direct your steps so that the only door that is opened is the one that leads to eternal life and many blessings. Keep the door shut on the things that are NOT of God, don’t even crack those doors open. Instead, throw open the doors that lead us to Jesus, that lets out the light and leads to a life of truth!

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

God has a plan for your life…so does the devil! Be careful what doors you decide to prop open! What doors do you have propped open in your life and what are you letting in?

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1Peter 5:8
