This Sunday evening we continue making our way through 2 Corinthians by considering this passage in which Paul writes of the good report he received from Titus about the believers in Corinth. There have been pains in this relationship, but by God’s grace things are improving. Paul notes that this positive turn flows from a godly sorrow over sin and brokenness. Godly sorrow leads to repentance, salvation, and the formation of God’s character, whereas worldly sorrow only leads to death. We all deal with sin in our lives and in this world, but how are we responding to it? Worldly sorrow is more centered on ourselves and our frustration at having to deal with the consequences of sin, while godly sorrow is focused on the Lord, and that this sin isn’t a fitting part of his world or our lives.
