As we continue our series reflecting on numbers found in the stories of Scripture, we come to the one miracle in Jesus’ ministry that is recorded in all of the gospels – the feeding of the 5,000. This story actually features several numbers. Besides the 5,000 men who are fed, there are 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, and 12 basketfuls of food leftover. This miracle of Jesus is a physical reminder that he has come to provide the food of life for his people, and that in his grace our Lord is willing and able to provide all that we need and more to know the abundant life he comes to save us for.
