Series: Miscellaneous

Book: Joshua

Rahab acts in extraordinary faith in God by hiding the spies (and unfortunately, stuck between a rock and a hard place, lies to the officers who come by). After doing so, she gives her testimony of faith–a profession of faith of sorts! She explains all the signs and language surrounding God in Jericho, what they’ve heard about him. Many people’s response is fear and desire to push back against Israel; Rahab’s response is remarkably faith in God (see 2:10-13). And her actions to hide and protect God’s agents (The spies) back up her statement of faith; she’s ‘all in’ on this faith journey.

How remarkable that Rahab goes from the town prostitute to the faith-filled protector. And how remarkable that God too transforms us by faith through Christ, prompting renewed actions and renewed obedience towards him. Ruth is given a new identity, joining the Israelite community; we are adopted into God’s family, given a new identity as well.
