This Sunday evening we make our way into the closing chapter of 2 Corinthians. Here, Paul is preparing the church for his impending visit, warning them in the hope that when he arrives things will be in good order. In doing so, Paul reminds the church that he is not powerful in himself, but only as Christ works through him, and as Paul stays connected to the truth of Christ. He also reminds the church that as they walk with Christ his power is in them as well! What was true of the church then is true of it now. As we walk with Christ, his power is among us and at work in us. These words warn us from trying to walk in our own power or from teaching people to rely on our strength rather than Christ’s. Where do we need to be wary of trying to walk in our own strength? Where can we take confidence in knowing that Christ’s power is at work among us?
