Proverbs Challenge Reflections
By FYSH Students & Leadership
Our students and leadership of our High School ministry have taken on the challenge of reading through the book of Proverbs. They have been asked to read 3 chapters a month and reflect on one verse from each chapter that stuck out to them and why. We hope to help promote a healthy routine of reading scripture and engaging with it so that they can apply it to their daily lives. The month of September was devoted to reading through Proverbs chapters 1-3 and the month of October will be Proverbs 4-6. We would love it if you joined with us as we absorb the wisdom of God’s Word. Here are some of the responses we received for the month of September.
Proverbs 3:11-12
“This spoke to me that I should not be angry at God for his discipline but I should understand that he is doing it out of love.”
Proverbs 1:3
“Doing what is right and fair isn’t just about being smart but about living rightly before God. Proverbs is all about wisdom.” “Fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Proverbs 1:8-16
“I chose these verses because it reminded me of peer pressure. Peer pressure is present in almost everything. These verses remind me to keep from engaging in peer pressure or preventing myself from falling into peer pressure.”
Proverbs 2:10
“This stood out to me because it talks about doing things that honor God and receiving wisdom and knowledge. And, that our souls would be pleased with it. But, if we are to choose the other way it would be a different story. Verse 22 says, ‘but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful will be torn from it.’”
Proverbs 3:5-6
“These are commonly known verses but I think that as you read it again and again the more you will deeply understand it. We need to fully trust him and not live our lives the way we want to but rather the way God wants us to live. We should do this out of thankfulness for what he has done for us. We should submit all we have and are to him and he will guide us and make our paths straight. Not saying it will always be easy but if we trust him we don’t have to worry about anything.”
Proverbs 2:10-11
“This stood out to me because it says good sense will keep you safe and understanding will guard you. To me this is saying if we follow God and hold his words close to our heart it naturally protects us from bad things like temptations and other sin. When we know God’s word we will naturally not want to do those sinful things because we know it would hurt God.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Put your full reliance on God and his strength because we cannot make it without his love and mercy.”
Proverbs 3:1-2
“These chapters really spoke to me in light of recent events in our country. The hatred in the hearts of so many people will try to destroy our beliefs in Christ and his desire is for us to go out into this world and spread his truth.”
Proverbs 2:6-7
“These verses remind me that I can go to God when I need help. He will always protect me and walk with me when I have wisdom.”
Praise God for his word, his wisdom, and the knowledge that comes from his special revelation so that we can live our lives unto him!
