Peek-A-Boo

Who doesn’t like a good game of peek-a-boo with a small child? No matter how many times you’ve played, it’s always fun to watch the little kids laugh! Right now—stop and turn to someone, put your hands over your eyes, and quickly remove them, calling out “peek-a-boo!” Try not to laugh; it’s difficult! What’s even funnier is when a small child does this. When they cover their eyes, they somehow think they have entirely disappeared, like you can’t see them. We see children do this even playing hide and seek—if I can’t see you, then you must not be able to see me. It’s the cutest thing in the world.

Sometimes when life isn’t going the way we want, we want to cover our faces and hide away from the world. There are hurts, pain, sadness, loss, and doubt. Those “giants” in our lives seem so big! Sometimes we feel like if we could crawl under our bed, hide in the closet, pull the covers over our head, or play peek-a-boo, the “giants” wouldn’t see us, and they would go away. The devil loves to use this to create worry, anxiety, depression, and panic in our lives. He wants us to run and hide in dark places, being afraid of everything. Maybe some of you can relate?

I love the story of David and Goliath. A small, young boy, with no battle training and with no equipment, makes a decision to NOT hide under his bed or find safety in his closet but instead runs toward the battle and makes a stand, facing his giants head-on! There is no doubt in my mind that as David stepped out onto the battlefield with the massive giant, he was nervous, scared, and a bit worried. But David knew one thing—GOD WAS WITH HIM!

What can we take away from David’s actions? What is our normal reaction when giants come into our lives? Is your faith strong enough to allow you to run toward your giants? What giants—big or small—do you need to stand against today?

Before David even slung his first stone, he made a bold statement: “This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands.” Before he even engaged the giant, before he threw the first punch, David knew that he would win. How can having this kind of faith help us today to face our giants?

How about you? Do you have the faith of a Giant Slayer? Do you believe that God has already given you victory over your giants? There is NO giant too big for God. No more playing peek-a-boo! Run toward the battle lines and claim VICTORY over the devil and his lies—IN THE NAME OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST!
