My Burden is Light

By Marie Faber

Scripture Reading: Matthew 11:28-30

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Do you ever feel “weary and troubled” and that there is no light in the darkness? Or that the circumstances that you are facing are just too much, and you become fearful?

Jesus’ disciples found themselves in fearful circumstances when they were out on a boat and a severe storm came upon them. They eventually remembered that Jesus was also in the boat, so they called to him for help. His answer to them and us today is, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” When the disciples turned their trust to him, he calmed the storm.

In our storms of life, remember that Jesus is always with us and is waiting to help us weather those storms if we only think to ask him. He may not take all our problems away, but he does assure us that if we rely on him, he will surround us with the peace that only he can give. He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

What a blessed assurance!

God, thank you for giving me rest and assurance. Help me to trust you more with my fears of uncertainty, regardless of my circumstances. Amen.
